Eat more Green Vegetables
Eat more green vegetables for example kale, broccoli, dandelion greens and spinach. Most people simply do not eat enough greens. But green foods are one of the least expensive sources of a variety of nutrients, making them essential for a healthy diet. These ranges from chlorophyll that helps absorb and take away toxins to powerful antioxidants that help stop against cancer. Leafy green vegetables are high in fiber, iron and calcium yet have a low glycemic index. They are also high in vitamin K, an essential nutrient for the production of osteocalcin which is essential for strong bones. They are rich in a large variety of vitamins, minerals and further nutrients that defend and nourish your whole body.
Eat raw Foods
Eat foods that are mostly raw. Pack your meals with organic fruits and vegetables. There are dozens of incredible raw cookbooks out there. Glance through some in the library or book store and check out all of the masterpieces you can create with simple produce. Being creative with your fruits and veggies will keep you from getting bored with eating sprouts and salads.
Healthy Breakfast
A healthy diet starts with a healthy breakfast that will give you power to start your day right. Unfortunately, bacon, eggs and pancakes will not fit this profile. Studies, and people, show that eating a lighter yet nutrient-filled breakfast will keep energy longer. Healthy breakfast ideas or free-range eggs with sauteed tomatoes and spinach or fruit, yogurt and nuts.
Every will give you highly nutritious, lean proteins, fiber and energy while keeping your morning meal from weighing you down.
Drink Enough Water
Staying hydrated is so important. Be aware of drinking at least half of your body weight in water every day. Drinking herbal teas count towards your water consumption. Sugary sweetened juices and soft drinks do not! Try coconut water. It is nature’s Gatorade. It is totally natural and a delicious alternative to juice.
Eat Whole Grains
Eat more whole grains and less highly processed grains. How can you recognize foods that contain highly processed grains? Avoid food that have these ingredients on the label; white flour, high fructose corn bleached flour, syrup, ingredients that you cannot pronounce. Replace these with whole grains that you have to cook yourself. Try whole grain breads for better nutrition, also.
Whole grains contain a host of nutrients that are not found in extremely processed grains. Necessary Fatty Acids or EFA’s are a necessary nutrient found in whole grains but are stripped out during processing. This nutrient is necessary for healthy skin, hair and brain function. But whole grains have even more benefits.
Snack on Nuts
Raw nuts that have not been salted are healthy and chock full of monounsaturated fats that our bodies need. Get ready your own trail mix at home by using a variety of raw nuts for example walnuts, pecans, almonds, and Brazil nuts. To the nuts add dried fruits (without added sugar), some shredded coconut and raw cacao nibs (the healthy raw form of chocolate that does not contain sugar and has not been processed). Shake up your mixture and dole it out into snack bags that you can take on the go. This trail mix is not only packed with nutrition but is filling and satisfying as well.
Repeated studies show that intake whole grains on a regular basis helped preserve a healthy weight. Risk of stroke, diabetes and heart disease were all lowered as well as decrease risk of asthma and healthier blood pressure levels. And the great thing is that benefits showed with eating as little as one serving every day.
